Have you ever felt the extreme guilt of drinking something out of a disposable cup? Or maybe you attended an event where garbage bins were full of these wasteful one-time use cups? In a world plagued with plastic and a desperate need to find a better solution, LOLIWARE presents an interesting alternative; plant-based cups that are biodegradable and edible.
These are the world’s first edible cups and are all free of GMO and gluten, are made from seaweed, organic sweeteners, and organic flavors and colors derived from fruits and veggies. With sustainability as a core inspiration, the cups were created with the intent to be a fully functional edible cup to replace plastic cups used at various events. The cups are entirely plastic free and are also 100% biodegradable and breakdown into compost within 60 days.
The biodegrEDIBLE cups are made with agar, a plant-based gelatin derived from seaweed which makes them suitable for a vegan lifestyle and come in many different flavors designed to complement a variety of drinks. Flavors include tart cherry, matcha green tea, vanilla bean, citrus and more. LOLIWARE’s new line of cups even includes a food-based all natural multi vitamin right into the cup. If you #eatyourcup, you will eat your daily vitamin requirements.
On a yearly basis, Americans throw out enough paper and plastic tableware and cutlery to circle the equator 300 times. Moreover, the average American office worker uses and throws out about 500 disposable cups every year. Many of these enter the landfill and will never be biodegraded. Statistics like these are what drive LOLIWARE’s founders Chelsea Briganti and Leigh Ann Tucker to keep pushing the envelope. Their goal is to revolutionise the disposable cutlery and tableware market and create a new category focusing on sustainable and zero waste items. The cups are the first product in what will expand to be a line of 100% biodegrEDIBLE tableware.
LOLIWARE’s current immediate goal is to replace 500M plastic straws that are discarded every day in the United States with the world’s first edible compostable straw, the LOLISTRAW. The company believes that if such products are to exist, they should be designed to disappear. Today, LOLIWARE is sold across 40 countries and is expanding.
“We needed to think beyond plastic and even bioplastic to create a product that is truly compostable, safe for the environment, and non-toxic for people.” LOLIWARE Founders, Chelsea Briganti and Leigh Ann Tucker.
