If you’ve seen my trash jar post, you’ll know that the majority of trash I produce is in the form of produce stickers. I find produce stickers annoying, and unnecessary – there has to be a better way for cashiers to ring through the fruit and veggies!
A city councillor in British Columbia agrees with me, and is proposing ban the produce stickers. His argument is that they contaminate their compost, and contaminates the soil. They’re proposing using compostable stickers, vegetable based ink, or food safe stamps in place of the annoying plastic stickers.
Personally, I think this is a great idea, and that BC should go ahead with in, and that other municipalities should do the same as well. Especially with the argument that the stickers are contaminating the soil that we grow our food in – I hadn’t thought of this before!
