There is so much plastic pollution and garbage that washes up on coasts throughout the globe on a daily basis. And everyday I hear about new organizations or groups that are coming together to organize beach cleanups and clean up our coasts.
There is a group in Australia called “Responsible Runners,” they have over 20 beach cleanups organized every Sunday throughout Australia. They are a fantastic group that encourages their members to get out and get active, while leaving the beach cleaner that they found it. They pick up an insane amount of garbage every week, and take an inventory of it to collect data.
Responsible Runners isn’t just about beach cleanups though. They also focus on education, and community engagement to help solve the problem of single use plastics. We can all do as many beach cleanups as we want, but unless we educate people to make smarter consumer choices, we won’t solve the problem.
Thanks to Responsible Runners for doing SUCH great work!
