Tesla is touring Australia with their first 100% renewable energy powered house. This innovative idea comes with a Powerwall ($3,500USD) capable of storing energy at peak solar hours to be used for later. The Powerwall is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that is used to store electricity, paired with solar panels ($4,500USD) cleverly placed on the roof to capture energy. This system is capable of capturing enough energy stored via the Powerwall to provide power to an entire home 24/7.
Specs are as follows:
- Weight – 2 tonnes
- Dimensions – 20x7x13 feet
- Solar generation – 2kW PV system of 6 panels
- Solar storage – 1 x Tesla Powerwall
- Exterior – Clad in locally sourced, chemical-free, sustainable timber
If most homes were self-powered with renewables around the globe, what would be impacted FIRST?
Will people need to work less to live?
Will the environment improve enough to make a difference?
Will this change how we build our cities?
