The Eden Reforestation Projects (EDR) in Madagascar are developing neat projects as of late! EDR is a non-profit organization that aids developing countries devastated by the decimation of their landscape through reforestation.
The result of removing trees from the landscape can range from large scale erosion, to sediment pollution to the water. Villages and small communities in the developing world cannot adjust easily to these devastating effects that no doubt affect their livelihood.
The project consists of gathering seedlings from native forests, transporting them to nurseries to grow seedlings in the fields. This collaboration employs the local people, thousands of local people, improving not only their living environment but allowing them to engage in the process of rebuilding their own economy and ecological diversity.
